rear end placement

rear end placement i've got a 69 camaro that has a ford 9" underneath it. who ever put it in did a direct swap and didn't align the leaf pads, and now after driving it, the leafs have started to bow out sideways. i need to relocate the pads but i'm not exactly sure how to get the rear end centered. what points on the frame and axle do i measure with and how do i get the rear end in centered and leaf pads welded in with minimal shimming for the pinion angle?
My limited experiance with leafs have been on my old trucks and I remember there being a locating pin or a groove in the center of the leaf where the pad locates itself on, i dont remember having to weld the pad to the leaf. Sorry I dont have more info on the subject, do you see a pin or grove on the leaf and a locating hole or tab on the pad?

i should have worded it a little bit better. the problem i am having is with the location of the pearches that are on the axle housing that the leafs sit on. i need to move them closer to the pumpkin.
Oh man, my brother has a 9" in his 68 camaro so i can ask him. I know it was shimmed up and he took it out and lost the shims and when it came time to put it back together he had to send it out to a chassis shop to gte the car to launch again, however he was drag racing the car strictly, im not sure if you would have to go through that if its a street car.
