Default Is this the only option??????????

OK so I have a 2000 SS M6 with the factory suck *** rearend. My question is that nobody has put a different rearend in their car without spending 2000.00 bucks. I mean come on really. I cant find any info on the net where someone took a different rearend and did a home project on it to make it work. It seems 2gees is alot of money to spend and then to be on here and read all the complaints about them.

Because it's a little more than just a 'home project'. $2k seems like a lot but it's really not when you consider the fact that it bolts on in 2 hours and will last you for quite a while.

Try as you might, but this as a "home project" is a headache waiting to happen. Search around in this part of the forum, and find the people that have fabbed up their own rears. It seemed like it was hardly worth the problems coming up with something like that.

There are a few people that complain about these rears, but honestly, if they were having as many problems as it appears, none of these companies would still be in business. The only people you ever hear from on a board like this are the ones with problems.

At the very least, you'd need some heavy duty welding equipment, and some serious welding skills (I'd think on the order of marine welding for me to be comfortable). The dimensions you need need to be nearly right on from the torque arm mount to the shocks to the LCAs and spring perches. This is no trivial task...if you want it done in any short amount of time, you'll pay the price of admission and be done with it.

You can always order the housings separate and piece it together from there too...if you did that route, I'd get a Ford 9" housing from Moser or Strange, and find a nice, used center section from a NASCAR racing team or Ebay.
