9" chunk question
$2500 bucks is an awful lot to spend on a rear end especially if i dont plan on going to the track a lot. Scott has the budget chunk with the motorsport case, and if everyone agrees that the other daytona units are still weak then i guess i'll consider his set up.
So the question: Are 9" cases with a daytona pinion support definately strong enough to take the abuse?
Kurt,
I run the EXACT chunk you speak of. Mine is a pull out Winston cup center section. It is a 4.22gear(micropolished, etc), Detroit locker, and daytona pinion support, and 31 spline moser axles.
Right now, my car makes 460/430 on motor, i launch around 5000 off the 2-step on 26x10x15 Hoosier D05's.
I have NEVER had a problem with my setup, and feel extremly confident i will never have a problem with it either. I plan to spray a 150 shot via Nitro Dave's wet plate kit the next year. the rear end is the last of my worries, it's the motor/trans that worries me.
Our economy center section set up with any ratio, 31 spline truetrac, new bearings, 1330 yoke, solid pinion spacer is $975.00. A Moser housing and axle package set up for your stock ABS rings is $1085.00. So for $2060.00 you can have a Ford 9 inch shipped to you in 4 boxes to your door.
I think that even though we're talkin $1700 to $2000 its still cheaper and smarter than rebuilding the stock pipe bomb. And besides, im almost positive that i can get most of my money back if i decide to sell it later.
