me over thinking gearing

ok so question. this is so stupid some of you wont comprehend my thought but work with me here. gearing is based off a 28" tall tire. so given you have a 3:73 and a 28" tall tire you have a 3:73. but if you run lets say a 4:30 with a 31" slick and lets say that gets you close to the 3:73 final ratio. does that effect your top end at all ? could that help fix your 60ft times due to more tire to the ground?

deeper gear/taller tire is generally better for drag racing. You have more contact, better rollout and more consistency.

There is a point of diminishing returns though

What you are saying is right. Most big tire cars really arent running that much effective gear due to the tire height of their car. The average stock car runs a 26-28" tall tire, if you make the tire 31" tall you would need to increase your gearing by about 20% to break even (from 26"), so say a 3.42 would need to be about a 4.10 to just break even. You would also have the loss from extra rotating mass and rolling resistance.
