quick question

My buddy has a 1972 olds with a 10 bolt rear. He wants to swap his 2.73 gears for 3.23 which my 2000 trans am currently has. I want to go with 3.73, 3.90, or 4.10 not decided yet. My question is are the two 10 bolt rear ends the same and can he use my gears from my car? thanks in advance for any help.

No his should be an 8.5 ring gear your should be a 7.5

Thanks for the info. I was hoping it would work he said he would install my gears for me if I gave him my old ones. He is a mechanic and I don't trust myself to do gears.
