when is a 10-bolt too old for gears?

Default when is a 10-bolt too old for gears?

I am looking into a 3.73 for my car to replace the 3.23s that are in there now. My only concern is that the rear-end has 150k miles on it now. It did have the axle bearings and seals replaced about 20k miles ago. I just wasn't sure if the rear will blow with that much more gear in it with this many miles.

Depends on the kind of driver you are. If you put your foot in it alot i.e. laying rubber down...then I'd say your on borrowed time. But if you take it easy for the most part and roll into the throttle it won't be as ruff on the rear end.

Some people will say it's not worth doing at all even.

If it seems healthy and you just replaced some parts I see no reason not to replace them if you intend to keep the 10 bolt for a bit.

I Put 3.73 in my car at 97k and the bearings looked brand new still. It has 111k on it now and still runs strong no problems. I would get a rear girdle for some insurance, but all in all I would say if your bearings are good go for it.

I think the higher the mileage, the better the opportunity. If you're doing a gear swap, then you have the opportunity to replace bearings and seals while everything is apart. You can even rebuild or replace the differential.
