having problems and dont know where to begin ok i had a my tranny rebuilt 02/22/02 and put a used converter in it(everything was good w/ the converter had it checked out before i put it in). while driving my car i noticed the converter wasnt locking like it normally does. it would try to lock then just stay unlocked and would just rev. im doing 50mph at 3k rpm when i usually do it somewhere around 1800-1900rpms. so i decided to get on it somewhere around 40mph or so and it downshifted fine and made the 2-3 shift but it would not make a 3-4 shift and the rpms where no where they were supposed to be. im just basically tryin to see if its my converter or tranny thats the problem or even these two
any advice would be appreciated

Re: having problems and dont know where to begin It does'nt sound right, at cruise say 50 mph it should be in 4th & at steady speed locked up but you have a 1000 rpm differance sounds like your in 3rd. A locked coverter will not drop a 1k in rpm. Is there any warranty with this trans?

Re: having problems and dont know where to begin At cruise type throttle pressure......the converter will only drop about 500 RPM when it locks (in 4th gear).
Sounds like your are in 3rd.

GWJ: I'm pretty sure that Bout-It is running an aftermarket converter, my guess a Vig.
M3Eater: rpm drop depends on the stall. Guys running 4000 or more true stall will often see that big a drop. When I lock-up in 4th around 45 mph, I drop from around 2600+ to 1600 rpm. You could be right about the upshift though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: having problems and dont know where to begin i have an after market converter. i have checked the fluid level in the tranny and it was fine i never thought to check the filter. will prolly do that this weekend. thanks
