Gear change question...

Gear change question... I know this topic has been probably up before but I am not really up to searching. I have a 98 SS A4 with h/c, headers, 3000 yank and stock rear gears (3.23). I mostly use my car for patrol and occasionally drag race. I need more to get out of the whole faster, light going from stop light to stop light. Would 3.42's be safer than 3.73's? I have been thinking of 3.73's for awhile, but since my patrol area includes a lot of freeway driving, I was wondering about stress on the engine and trans. Any help will be appreciated.

That's what we used to use on our daily driver/cruiser/racers back in the ol' Woodward days.
On a TH400 without O/D, it turned 3,000rpm at 60 mph. I figure about 2,300/2,500 RPM at 60mph with the O/D. No big deal ..
Go 3.73....you'll be glad you did.....lots more punch!

Re: Gear change question... Thanks for the input, I was leaning towards that direction. I do think it will be alot of fun with it on patrol.
