Default H/C on stock rear?

Not sure where the hell this would go, because it encompasses a few topics... I am looking to do H/C and eventually a 9"/12bolt. My question is, I'd really like to do the H/C first then the rear later, but the bad part about that is, I might not be able to dictate WHEN I drop the 2300 on the rear (meaning, if the 10bolt goes, then the car is unnecessarily down while I gather funds for the rear). But if I do the rear first, then the car isn't down since the 10bolt still works, and when I get the new one in, it's just a matter of swapping out, and that pretty much solidifies a large chunk of the driveline for when I do the H/C. What would you all do first? Thanks.

depending on the cam and heads you do, the type of suspension work your doing and how often you take it to the track.....will determine how long that rearend will last....i know guys pushing 400 to the wheels, stock clutchs, stock rearend....and havent broke anything yet.....u just have to know what your dealing with, and the wrong combos will break it.....dont put high gears and stickys...or youll be walking home

If you don't put sticky tire on it you should be fine for awhile on the 10bolt, but really what fun is that right, I guess I would get the rear first if I started over. I did all the susp (setup to hook not handle the corners) then decided to do the cam and bottle next big mistake I got about 2 bottle through the car on the street and there went the 10 bolt!! So my car sat for the rest of the summer, 4 mos but now I have money for a rearend so spring will be fun.

Nice, yea that's what I'm thinking, what fun is the H/C if I really can't rag the hell out of it. Already have the LCAs and PHB, going with new shocks and a T/A this spring. I guess I'll just do a little more evaluating and see where my needs stand and what I'm definitely looking to have the car do.

If you were an auto, I would say you would have no problem. I ran 10.80s with my old car on the 10 bolt. But b/c you have a M6, you are playing with fire if you put a sticky tire on it.

Honestly I think people dont give the 10 bolt enough credit, yea if you put slicks or drag radials take it to the track with a good clutch and launch at 4500 + RPM's yea its going to blow, but as long as you dont go crazy with it, it should be good for a while, Ive had mine at the track a few times and launched at around 2300 and eased off the clutch and still pulled 2.0< 60ft times and never had a problem

Ok what about a 98 Stock everything Z28 A4 exploding a factory 3.23 gear and the carrier on the street with street tires? It happened to me. I'm just saying it is a game of luck. There are some people that can just completely abuse them and never have a problem, and they are extremely lucky.

I have a head/cam combo and been on the stock rear for over a year now. I don't start off too agressively in first gear though. When I hit 4000 rpm I start to spin the Goodyear F1's. I have just put on some nitto drag radials to see if it fix the spinning at 4k. Check back with me in a few months to see if i still have my stock rear or not!

All you guys that say "you don't give the 10 bolt enough credit" are all saying tha same thing DON'T BEAT ON IT AND IT WON'T BREAK, OR TAKE IT EASY IN 1ST THEN GET ON IT. here is my question for you, why make your car fast if you cannot have fun with it? Launching feels awsome, and the feeling of not having to cringe everytime you launch wondering is this going to be the one it breaks on. I broke 3 10bolts and finally gave up!!! 2 were on nittos launching at 2500rpm nothing crazy at all, and the 3rd one well I was stupid and tried 550rwhp with sticky tires

Just do it the right way and get the drivetrain ready before you throw a lot of power at it, or even sticky tires for that matter.

What about me? I ran consistant 10.80s, carrying the wheels up in the air, and trapping over 126 mph in the quarter mile with a 10 bolt for two seasons. Like you said, some are lucky I guess...

OT... what cam Matt? 126, jeez.

On topic, thanks for the input guys, from what I understand the autos can take it more because of the fact that the launch doesn't shock the drivetrain like M6. SLP, thanks for the insight, that's exactly how I feel. I wanna be able to absolutely throw hell at it, and not have to think that this might be it

MS3 cam. I launched the car off a 4000 foot brake (4600 converter) & 26" MT Drag radial.
