Thumbs up Rear end not a posi!! Help!

My 98 T/A was purchased for me back in 02 by my father for taking care of business my first two years in college. About a year after that my R/E went out, or blew up to put it better. I dont know why except there may not have been enough oil in the gear housing. The car was taken to a guy who does reputable work it would cost $1100 to repair. I also found out that the rear end was not a limited slip, or positive traction. I dont know if those are the same thing, but only one wheel does the pulling. My pops paid for it to be repaired but he didnt even inquire about how much it would cost to set it up to its original standard. There are two shops in Baton Rouge where I live who can both do it for around $1200. My dad and I can take the rearend off if it will make the labor cheaper. The problem is within the next year I want to mod the car where im pulling around 380-400 HP at the rear wheels. Is a 7.5" R/E worth re-building, and should I get my R/E issue solved before I purchase a T/C and shift kit? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

No! There is now way you should invest that kind of money in a 7.5 rearend. You can either pick up a used 7.5 in good working condition for a couple hundred bucks, or go all out and order a 12 bolt or 9 inch from a sponsor of this site. Even if Dad is picking up the tab, don't have him waste his money. He will be pissed when the new rebuilt 7.5 snaps.

Yes! Defintely get you rearend issues worked out before investing in other mods. If I read correctly, you are getting the one wheel peel now. You will not realize any performance improvement unless you get the power to the ground.

you can just find a used axle for $150ish with a posi or you can invest $2500 in a 12 bolt, S-60 or 9"

Be patient if you can. I found a low mile 4 channel 10 bolt. It had a Zexel Torsen unit in it for $100. Great find! However, you can usually find something close to that for $200-500. Don't go over $500 though. GOOD LUCK!
