are any rear end noises normal?? i installed a SLP takeoff LSD on my car about 8 months ago and its worked perfectly..recently but has prolly always been like this the rear seems to be making some noise.. just leaving a stop light like normal it has no problems.. say im doing 30 MPH and let off the gas totally...then i hit the gas again i hear a thumping noise in the rear ..sounds almost like metal on metal..its not terribly loud and im the only one that notices it really..
is any play in the meshing of the gears normal?
the 2 shims on the outside of actual lSD are different sizes..im wondering if i have the wider one on the right side so the gears are wider apart, when the thicker shim needs to be on the left so the gears are closer together
it only does this like from a roll, not from a stop.. im only worried about it cause im putting a converter in on thursday and dont want problems

question about the shims is to remove the rear cover and check the backlash. Should be .007-.011
your shims are probably .035-.050 different.
Depending on the measurement you get you'll know
what to do. I just bought a 2002 SLP SS and I put
it into the shop a week after I had it for a
similiar reason. SLP told me to also try adding
an extra 2oz. bottle of additive to the rear.

Did you try the extra 2 oz. of additive to the rear, and did it help any. I thing I have the same problem in my 2001 camaro ss as you do because I have a thumping noise in the rear just like you explained. I have had GM guy drive it and they say it the rear rotors, they say they are warped. Send back and tell me if it worked or not, because if it did work I will try it.

could be the play in the rotors. mine did it on the old car. they have a lil slack from the rotor holes not being tight on the studs. mine would do it anytime at low speeds if i put some friction on the pads then got back on it. most pads have some friction all the time so its very possible you have the same problem
