Default 2.73 to 3.73 e.t. difference!

I made it to the local 1/8 mile track last weekend, i ran an 8.8 with a lid, headers and a cutout with my 2.73's. I was able to hit 8.4's with the gear swap. They made a huge difference!

A-4 right?

Are you satisfied with 3.73's or would you have gone with 4.10's?

Anything is better than 2.73s. I switched to 3.42s and definitely noticed the difference before I put my Yank stall.

i'm hopefully gonna be swapping my rear out this weekend with one out of a 6 speed...I dont really know what to expect going from 2.73's to 3.42's..I hope i can feel a difference..One question i have is when i topped out my car, it would not shift into OD at topspeed..With the 3.42's do you guys think that it will shift into OD? or will it stay in 3rd like it does with 2.73's?..because if it doesent shift into OD my topspeed is gonna go to ****..but if it will shift into OD with the 3.42's i wont lose any topspeed which will definately be cool..so if you guys know anything about this just let me know.

Thats kinda weird..My'n was a little past 155..probably around 158 or something...it was at like 5900-6000 RPM..i couldnt get it to hit the rev limiter..it just wasnt gonna go any faster than that. My best friend was in the passenger seat video taping it..You do have 2.73's right?

it's an A4. I love the difference and i wouldnt go any steeper. i havn't ran a 1/4 mile yet, so i cant say if the 4.10s will be too steep or not. I need drag radials for the street now! i think i could of hit an 8.3 with some good DRs out back.

Your going to lose top speed, I don't get how you topped off on 3rd if you still have 4th gear. Think of it this way 3.42's have more teeth on the ring and pinion, so at any rpm in either 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th your wheels are spining slower than with your 2.73's if tire size stays the same. The only solution to get more mph is to get a bigger tire.

A4's depending on the year have a lift to shift setup for the 3->4 shift. WOT 3->4 shifts are very hard and pretty much detremental to the tranny. thats why it didn't go into 4th when at WOT.. actually now that I think of it... with 2.73's I think would would have to be gong around 170 mph to shift into 4th at WOT so unless you have some big mods it could have not shifted into 4th simply because you didn't get to the shift point and probably didn't ahve the power to go any faster.

my car will just bounce off the rev limiter at 145... now i went to the shop, and they seen that the computer had to so that the car would shift into 4th at 199 mph or something like that.. they have changed it..but i havnt tried to go that fast.. and i dont think i will on the street..maybe when shes fast enough to go that fast in the 1/4 we will find out

My car stock was a GU5 car. Now I have a 3.42 rear in it and it will shift into 4th at 135ish. I have never hit the limiter on the 3-4 shift, the 1-2 and 2-3 shift yes but never the 3-4.
