Help with gear swap

Help with gear swap I'm attempting my first ever gear swap. I've got the axles out and main caps off. How to I pop out the differential? Do I just pry it with a pry bar? Is there a hidden bolt I'm missing?

Might take some fighting to get it appart. I suggest investing in a thesauras of swear words. The usual and customary combinations and incantations you already know may not be enough to persuade it.

Here's another link that may help. FYI when I do gears I use a 3/4 wrench on a ring gear bolt to lock down the carrier against the housing (topside), then use a prybar to turn the carrier. With the wrench locking down the carrier, the only way for it to move when turning is out.

Re: Help with gear swap if it is realy tight you could use your prybar to lock the diff and use your ratchet and turn the pinion. once the prybar hits something and stops then by turning the pinion it will force it out. this works great because the lower gear ratio cut into the gears provides you with 3.42 (or what ever you gear ratio is) times the turning force of a similary lenght prybar. so if your ratchet is 1' long then it is equal to useing a 3.42' prybar on the diff. then if you add a cheater bar and get up to a 2' ratchet now your talking like a 6.84' prybar. anyways hope that this helps.
