I have a 98 ss with the m6. It came with the auburn posi from slp. I am going to be replacing the gears soon because they are going bad. Is the auburn posi any good or should I get something else. How can I tell if it is bad? Do I need to rebuild it. let me know what is the strongest.

My car came from the factory from SLP w/that option, its a good rear, for everyday activities, just don't try drag racing w/it too much, I put 4.10 gears in mine...![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
Suppously if you bust the posi you can still drive on it, compared to how you can't w/a regular setup...not sure how true this is, but I heard it floating around somewhere..

How did you like your 4:10's? They still quiet. I only go to the track twice a year. Should be fine with 4:10's right? What gears did you use. I am going to get the thunderracing package with either the Motive or Strange Gears. Do you still have your auburn in yours or did you change it.

I put a HD Auburn in a 12 bolt for my ´67 El Camino and it worked great at first, but after I lost traction on one wheel once and it managed to slip it was useless just like an open diff.

FYI,the 98 SS came with Auburn standard, the zex/torsion was an option.99 and up the Auburn was the option and torsion standard. The 98 standard Auburn is not the same as the optional 99 up Auburn.Bit confusing but true.
You can still get a take out SLP zexel/torsion for $99,a great buy for the money.I went thru 2 Auburns and now using the SLP take out zexel.Only takes a few one wheel burn outs to kill the posi/clutches in an Auburn.
