I would say you have to cut the boot with the Ripper also. I have the Pro 5.0. It was noisy as hell for about the first 300 miles, but now it's almost as quiet as the stock Hurst POS.

My Ripper is pretty noisy, has been since day one. When i switched from the stock ball **** to an SLP ****, the noise went down a lot... The name of the game is insulation... Notice if you take the **** off, there is NO noise... I found that putting a few thick rubber bands around the base area of the stick itself (under the leather boot), helps out a bit.. it helps supress some of the noise.

I installed the Pro 5.0 without cutting the boot at all...and I also did the Rob Mod for the Lou's Short Stick...used some locktite on the stick bolts...and I have no noise whatsoever...I recommend that you do not cut the boot...that way noise will be minimal if any....

I did the same...not cut the boot...but the rubber
band idea is neat...I will add that to my setup.
