Default U-joint question

I made a post earlier about a funny noise the rear end was making. I’m leaning towards a U-Joint. Lets see what everyone thinks as I have a few questions.

First off, Is there a difference from a 98-02 M6 cars U-joint? The reason for asking is the 01 U-joint is a dealer only item from every where I check, but people stock the 98-00.. Hmmmm

This is what makes me think it is a U-joint. When accelerating It makes noise, when decelerating it makes a slightly different noise. But since there is a little slop, if I catch it in what I am calling the “Neutral zone” the noise is almost nonexistent. Hope that makes sense. The noise it makes is consistent, speeds up when I speed up, slows down when I slow down.

What do you think?

That is considered gear whine in everyway by what you are saying.

Are your gears stock? If not stock who made them some are louder than others. If they are stock it is just a crappy wear pattern or you have crushed the washer and it now has ridden up or down. If you car is under warrenty go complain. If you do change the fluid make sure you put in GM posi additive.

I have a 2000 TA. The stock U-Joints are crap. I installed some new ones from Oriely Autoparts that have grease fittings. Every oil change, I pump a little grease in the u-joints. Before I changed them out, I had an anoying click/ding sound ringing my drive shaft when I put any torq to it. Now I hardly every here that noise.

Rear end sounds pretty quite. It is stock too.
