Default possible to OVER gear a car????

here is my question. i have 4.56's and was wondering if they are too much gear. i do have the cam to support those gears, but im not 60' the way i think i should be. granted we have shity weather here, but my car only weighs 3100lbs raceweight. my 60' are normally in the 1.66 range with a one time best of 1.61. i run 27" qtp's. im thinking to go to a 29" qtp which would bring my gear ratio down to around 4.30 with a 27" tire. rest of mods in sig. thanks

You can over gear a car but honestly with that taller tire it's like you are running a 4.30 gear out back and that's not too wacky.

I bet you are spinning or the converter is tight... Have you had anyone spot you at the track and watch your launches?

Towards the end with my car (422ci etc.) anything in the 1.53 or HIGHER was the result of me spinning. When I was h/c I was going 1.55's and a 1.59 meant some spinning.

On the other hand if you are deadhooking there is something wrong. Mess with converter, maybe you need to footstall it to 2500 like a Yank 4400. I just coached Fastr A4 from 1.62's to 1.55's by suggesting she vary her launch rpm by 400 rpms a run to see what happens to the 60ft.

Run your hals at 2/2 in the front, and 4/4 in the back, and run the tires at 15 cold. Just focus on the other stuff.

i kind of threw a traction problem out the window because i run my fronts at 2/2 and my rears at 3/3 with 12 psi cold. but i have never tried different launch rpm's. i normally stall to 2500. maybe i need to flash this converter. but ill try different rpm's and see what happens. and ill call Derek and pick his ear about this converter as well. thanks

i think 1.66 is not right at all. i am pulling 1.60-1.61 flooring it off idle and better when i footstall it. i dont think DA has anything to do with that 60' that is all TQ made artifically with the convertor. your big rearend gear is multiplying the tq even more. i am sure you are spinning. also i have always run worse when running that low of psi in the tire. i have never needed to go below 15psi hot on an automatic car ever. in fact at 15 psi some nights i deadhook (slowing me down). a 27" qtp tire should be PLENTY. i think i have too much tire with my 28x9" tire (27.3" tall). and you are only over geared if you are running out of rpm on the big end in 3rd.

I'd try a run footstalling it at 2500, and then follow up with a run footstalling it to 1400. If I stalled up the PI stuff it would not get any flare on the launch but the Yank stuff is the total opposite.

My best recorded 60ft was a 1.48 last year.
