2 questions.
What type for a truetrac?? Synthetic or not?? It is a brand new rear, how long should I run it before changing the fluid for the first time?
Kinda Newbie questions, but I just want to be sure I don't ruin it before I get it going. Thanks.
I know about running a few heat cycles through it before I get it on the road good,
Keith
So minerial based fluid is usually required for clutch and cone type LSD units and the requirement of LSD additive is essential for quiet operation.
Synthetic is a good choice for Torsen /true trac and open differentials
Now I personally do not use synthetic till the gears are broken in after the first 1000 miles. And between 500-1000 is usually a good time to change the breakin fluid out . Best for the bearings and gears if this is done it will make all the parts you installed last the longest they can - as long as they were installed properly from the beginning.

It takes approx 2 1/2 quarts of gear oil. If a Truetrac is used, posi additive is not needed.
We do four to five 10 minute heat cycles, allowing the rear to cool between runs. You then need to take it easy on it for 500 miles to allow the gears to properly break in. Bob
