Transmission Experts Please Help! Hey guys, maybe someone can help me out. This is my friend's car and it has 135K hard miles so it might just need a total overhaul. Here is what it does. It will start out fine and then about 3-4 minutes down the highway it will go into neutral and eventually when you slow down enough it goes into 2nd gear and won't come out of it. However it will go into reverse and back into second. Also the fluid gets very hot, hotter than normal in my opinion. We changed the fluid/filter and changed the hoses going to the cooler, and still no luck. There was nothing abnormal on the magnet. Once it sits and cools, it will drive normal for a couple minutes, but just goes into 2nd again. Anybody know what this means? Is it the torque converter or clutches or something? Oh yeah, it did this once about a month ago, but we turned the car off and turned it right back on and it drove fine until yesterday. Now it does this every time. Thanks a lot!
