making the right decision to go 9"

In my 02 WS6 (M6+boltons) i had a grinding noise that was just a carrier bearing on my axle... so i replaced them, to the tune of $500 (both bearings, one axle, plus labor) and four days later... a new noise starts... and i return to the shop and find it to be the pinion bearing, which has since let the pinion start digging way too far into the ring gear. This shop thinks a new set of gears, maybe some 373s, will fix the problem along with a new pinion bearing. But they want another grand to do that work.
This is the point where i think.... i will NOT become that guy from the forum stickies... spending 1,500 on a 10bolt... but can't afford a 9" or 12bolt.
They've tried to tell me if i put in a Eaton posi in the 10bolt with the new gears, i'll be bulletproof up to 450hp. But i'm not confident in that at all... and thats gonna bring the cost up closer to $1800 + the first $500.
Replacing the gears and bearings still leaves that Torsen in there with 65k on it. I'd hate to put over $2k into the 10bolt and still baby it thinking im gonna grenade it.
Well, I tried to tell this shop I wanted a 9" and they kept trying to talk me out of it. Saying it was going to have to be totally custom and too expensive. After that i came on LS1tech, got linked to EPP and showed that to the mechanic, and but him in touch with Bob at EPP.
Well, it still seems like he wants to talk me out of the 9"... but I think i'm just gonna take it to a custom 4x4 truck shop that does lift kits all the time, and plenty of custom fabbing if its needed.
As far as i see it... if I don't get a 9", and i just fix the 10bolt, im selling the car... but if i get a 9", then i'll keep her.. and then in the future, I can work on a head/cam package, and not fear ruining a 10bolt.

Nothing was custom fabbed. You'll have to have the bearings pressed on to the axles if you don't have a press. Should put you back 10-20 bucks though.
Get the UMI LCA brackets to save you some time, not the BMR stuff.
I was that guy in the stickies, invested way too much $$ into my 10 bolt....still works to this day, but I shoulda upgraded to a 9 a long time ago.
Ron was unwilling at first to do this job, but I think he is becoming reassured that it will be an easy installation... but he told me that when he called you, you told him that my ABS would no longer work, or that most people just cut it off.... and he doesn't want to give me my car like that if its not 100% perfect.
I thought the ABS problems were with the 3ch (ABS only no TCS) and that if you have both (4ch) that it works perfectly, and that the exicter rings can be attached before shipment (for an additional charge). Is this correct? If we can assure him that the ABS is not an issue, he should be willing to do this install for me.
One other concern he has, is that the gears you provide with this axle are a particularly noisey brand, and that he will have to deal with that issue if i bring it back to him. After paying for a 9" and everything I'd like to have no more noises or problems ever again with my drivetrain... would u suggest anything to help this?
I tried calling you a few mins ago but no answer.
Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Either US Gear or Motive gears are used, and they are good quiet gears. Richmond are the gears that tend to be noisy.
Four to five ten minute sessions with the car up in the air idling in gear, then cooling down between sessions, helps to allow the gears to break in to be quiet. This needs to be followed with taking it easy on the car for 500 miles.
I was short staffed yesterday, and the phones were busy all day, I'm sorry you could not get through. Thanks! Bob
