Need gear advice I've got an 01' SS A4 with the stock 3.23 rear. Current mods are headers, ORY, 3400 stall, and a cam (228/222 .588/.581 114.5lsa).
I'm thinking about going to a 3.73 gear and was wondering what everyone else's experience has been especially anyone with a similar setup. What all is involved with having the gear installed and will the car need to be tuned again or does the pcm just need to be adjusted for the spedo ?
The car is running fairly consistent 12.30's@109+mph with 60ft times in the low 1.7's. How much of an effect will this have on my ET and mph ?
Will the gear help get the car off the line any quicker ?
Looking at a few runs I have data logged it appears I'm going through the traps at about 5400rpms. The 2-3 shift is also pretty consistent at 6300rpms. The 1-2 seems to vary from 6200-6400.

your running 12.30s at 109 with cam and a converter? seems kind of slow with that low of a 60ft, my buddy was running mid 11s with a similar cam and a 3400 stall with 3.23s in a ful lweight a4 TA. he added a 100 shot and broke 10's
I think a 3.73 will be just right with that stall, and those parts, WITH AN AUTO...
any steeper, and well, you start to make sacrifices!
I would say with a good launch and those 3.73's, you'll gain a tenth or two EASY....
As far as calibration/tuning goes, just have someone hook up HP tuners and change the gear ratio setting in the PCM so the speedo is correct!
