Noise help! I have noises coming from the rear 
. These noises are mostly during deceleration. It's a whining sound, and just before coming to a stop I get this slight clunk. No noises during acceleration. Just coasting and decelerating. Could this be a gear problem, or driveshaft? Please help!

Re: Noise help! i just unstalled 4.11's in my car. i called motive and they said that f-bodies are notorious for noisy rearends. but he also told me to change the pinion shim to .32 and backlash to .011. so i'm going to do that. motive phone # is 1-800-934-2727. ask for bruce. he'll help you.

Re: Noise help! I'm on like my fourth set of gears. I don't know what is not being done right. It's not as bad as my last couple of installs. Want them to be as quiet as possible. Surely, there is something to make this drivetrain quiet or quieter. I'm still not certain it's the gears. Could it be possibly bearings, u-joint, bad install? Any help appreciated.
Re: Noise help! I'm sure it is your gears; as ngozer said f-bodies are notorioius for that, especially with aftermarket ring & pinion. Ring & pinion setup is very touchy also. Stop putting money into that POS and get a 12 bolt or 9 inch! 
Re: Noise help! what ratio did you go with on your last install? that guy i told you to call said 4.11's will always have a noise but it will be tolerable. anything under that (ie. 3.73's, 3.23's) shouldnt make a noise. my friend with an 02 z28 had 3.73's installed. they made just a little bit of noise for about 200 miles. after that no noise so it may be the install. my advise is if your not familier with a chevy 10 bolt, don't attempt to install it. i did a 9 inch a few years ago and it was cake but that 10 bolts are a different world especially the newer 10 bolts. i took mine apart for the 3rd time now today. after this time if it'snot right i'm takeing it somewhere to have it done. so take my advise and expierence as you want to. good luck!

Re: Noise help! They're Motive 3.73's. Also, unknown if this is related, can my new gears have any effect on my car not shifting correctly. I know it's a dumb question, but thought I would ask. Every since I changed gears, my 3-4 shift has been strange. Anyways thanks for the help!
