2.73 or 3.42?

2.73 or 3.42? I have a stock '98 TA, automatic with stock 2.73 rearend with TCS. Friend has 3.42 gears from a '98 WS6. As I understand it, it's a straight swap - but will this make the car noticebly quicker, or is the swap a waste of time?

Re: 2.73 or 3.42? my last truck had a 3.08 stock and i went to a 3.73 before it was wrecked and it was a huge difference! Now this truck i have ( same year, motor,mileage,) i found has a 3.42 stock and it made about a 2/10 difference in the 1/4 all stock. Sorry its not a LS-1 but i hope that helps. I havent done anything to my camaro other than swap a same ratio rear into it when i grenaded the last one

Re: 2.73 or 3.42? It is not a straight swap. the 2.73's are on a 2 series carrier & the 3.42's are on a 3 series carrier. I did this swap on my '98 Camaro and bought a 3 series Zexel-Torsen carrier from SLP for $99. Just go with a good converter instead and keep the good highway gas mileage and still kick a$$ at the strip.

Your 2.73's are stronger and can take more abuse so just keep them and get a good converter. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I have 2.73's and a ST3500 and it rocks!! <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" /> Now if they ever break on me I will get a 12 bolt with 3.42's <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
