Default 2.72 to 3.23

I have a buddy with 2.73's in his 1996 camaro. I will swapping out my 3.23's shortly for some 3.73's and he was interested in my old 3.23's.

Ive done some reading up and I was under the impression you could not swap 3.23's into a rear that has 2.73's but Im reading that it is do-able.

Anyone able to chime in and say forsure what the deal is?

Going from 2.73s to 3.23s is like pissing in the wind. It isn't that big of a difference and he'll barely notice it. He is better off finding a good used set of 3.42s and buying a ring gear spacer from Speed Inc

I do have 3.73's. Someone wants my old 3.23's in their vehicle that currently has 2.73's and I am willing to give them to them for free.

Im wanting to know if it is do-able being he has 2.73's now.

it depends on what carrier he has. I think some cars with 2.73's came with 2 series and some came with 3. he would need a 3 series to run your 3.23's.

He would need a ring gear spacer to run your gears. Ive never heard of a 2.73 3 series carrier from gm they are all 2 series.

No your gears(3.23s) will not fit in friends car because he has a 2 series carrier, he would be better off buying thick gears from Strange and an install kit. He should do 3.73s from 2.73s. Good luck
