Positraction Question

I rotated my tires today and while the passenger side was jacked up, and with the handbrake on so the rotors weren't moving, I was able to rotate the axle about an inch back and forth! I checked the drivers side while it was up, and it only rotated a fraction of an inch - much less, and not as easily.

Is this normal for positraction and I just never noticed it before? I have the stock Zexel Torsion, ASR, and M6. Could this be a source of the infernal clunking (not rocks in a box) from the rear of this car?
