Sounds like you fell into a deal. You'll have to figure out what was done to it. Is it an LT1 still? What did you buy it for?

i took this pics when we put the energy suspension bushing kit , i took the car in for 4k ,its a 1994 camaro lt1 m6 , i bought it , had a tune up done to it at my buddies shop and after looking at it he tells me that the car is cammed , so i got curious cause i already felt that the car was pretty stong, so we went to dyno the car and it pull 365rwhp, recently y just added a 100 shot of juice and it put down 475rwhp so i'm a really happy guy right now.
Apparently it has a cc306 cam a act stage 3 clutch lingenfelter cai , also the rotors on the back brakes seem to be bigger than the ones in front

so you paid 4k for an lt1 with a nine inch/cam and who knows what else...and it put down 365 on motor to the wheels even though the power robbing nine inch...i think is safe to say you did pretty good since the rear end alone would be worth 1500 at least

It takes a little more power to turn the 9 inch then a 12 bolt.

If you get a aluminum center with a spool it should weight as much as a 12 bolt with a posi.

I would rather lose 5-10 rwhp, than break a 10 bolt everytime I went to the track.

Its not just the weight of the rear and components that adds to driveline loss, the 9" has its pinion in a different location relative to the center of the ring gear which make it less efficient at transferring power.

That being said, I also would rather know that it is 10x harder to break and give up a few hp.

I've seen 12 bolts puck the spider gears out in 11 second cars. I've installed a few 9 inches with the same ratio's the customer was running in the stock 10 bolt and the cars picked up ET at the same mph. Average is .30 in the 1320 so IMo the 9 inch is the most versitile assembly out there. There are more ratio's and diff's to choose from.
