? about Tranny removal????????please help How in the $#@$#@^@ <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> do you get the top bolts out of a A4. I have tried a long extention from t the back and every thing else I can think of..just can not quiet get on it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> ...especially the one on the driver side... <img border="0" alt="[whiner]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cry.gif" />
BTW, I do not have a car lift..doing this R&R on a car trailer.

Re: ? about Tranny removal????????please help Take the crossmember off(4 bolts) while supporting the tranny with a jack from below, then slowly lower the jack this should tilt the motor and trans down a few inches and give you a better look at the top bolts, make sure to keep the jack under it all. I recommend leaving the bottom bolts in till last on the removal so there is something still holding it while you remove the top ones. After the top ones are out raise the jack to support the trans and take some weight off the bottom bolts and remove them. Mine came down far enough that I was able to reach my hand up there and get them out after I broke them loose, but then again I have very skinny arms. Good luck
Re: ? about Tranny removal????????please help Get a 13mm swivel socket at Sears and a 3 foot long extension. You'll get right on the bolts after you lower the tranny tail. A separate swivel and socket won't work because the combination is too long and will hit the body. In case you don't know, the cooler lines are held in with e clips. A scribe or ice pic with a 90 degree bend in it will pop them out. Reinstall the e clips on the tranny before you put it back in the car and you can just push the cooler lines back in.

I have everything loose but the problem is that my tranny isn't coming down but about 2 inches...not enough for me to even think about geting to the bolts. I can't find anything that is keeping it from angling down any further....but I will continue to look...... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

remove the maf and airbox lid, etc. you'll be surprised how much lower the trans tail will go then!
