Default what has changed in a 9" since introduction?

First of all I am sorry for the odd question?
Basically I would like to know what the difference
would be between a 9" rear end that you could buy
off the shelf today when compared to a 9" that
I bought from a 1957 ford station wagon???
Thanks in advance guy's.

The housing and center should be the same dimension, although there are a couple of types of housings. It's essentially the same, except for the mounting brackets. Also, most OEM 9 inch rears came with 28 spline axles and an open differential.

Not that much[besides materials],it was a great design and still is.
The one I picked up comes from a 70 CJ Mustang, the axles were changed to STRANGE 31 spline and the Diff was swapped to an EATON Detroit locker.
It has 3rd gen Disc brake set up installed with the balancers and all brackets in place[TA/Panhard bar/shocks/springs].
If you can find an old one somewhere go for it!!!
