Weird clunking noise...

Weird clunking noise... I know this is the perfect excuse to go ahead and throw in the Strange 12 bolt with 3.73s but right now we just don't have the money. The new house we moved into two months sapped me of over $4500 in just one weekend! Now of course the Camaro wants to make sounds it shouldn't. I have the stock 10 bolt with 3.42s and from the right rear I hear a horrible clunking sound. It makes me think there are things floating around in the rear end (gear teeth/axle splines?) or the brake backing plates are knocking for some unknown reason. I need to replace the rear rotors and pads anyway so that was a future weekend project since I only have Sundays off for the most part. What else could it be? Once I get it the jack under it this weekend I am going to spin the rear wheels to hear what I can, maybe that will help locate the sound/problem. In the meantime any ideas that will be less than replacing gears or an axle? By that time it is best to invest the $2500 for the new rearend all together in my mind...just the funds aren't there.
