Default 6 speed conversion

how hard is it to convert from an a4 to a t56 what all is needed? or should i just build an automatic anybody know where i can get a decent priced a4 or t56

Damn hard. There's a laundry list of things to change. Just buy a torque converter and know why big power M6 guys want an auto.

I've not done a 4th gen, but I have converted 2 3rd gens from auto to a t-5 and from auto to a t-56 (5 speed and 6 speed swap). I found it is not that hard.

YOu will need the correct flywheel, clutch, transmission, bellhousing, torque arm mount, crossmember and pedals and hydraulics and a center console from a manual.

YOu will pull the transmission, flywheel, and converter.

YOu will swap in the new parts after drilling the hole for the hydraulics in the firewall and bolting them in place with the new pedals.

The hard part will be pulling the neutral safety switch wires out of the auto shifter and hooking up the clutch switch. You will also need to hook your cruise control "cut out" switch to the clutch pedal as well as the brake. YOu will need to hook up the reverse lockout solenoid on the transmission.....many guys hook it to the brake pedal (since you will usually be stepping on the brake when shifting into reverse). I'm sure there are a few things that I may have missed, but basically, that is the bulk of it. I can't tell you if you will need to use LS1 edit to change the programming or not.....can anyone else help out? GOod luck!

It isn't "damn hard". The only things that are a custom job are drillingt he hole in the firewall for the m/c and cutting the tranny tunnel for the shifter. Everything else is a matter fo swapping parts and wiring. It's quite a bit fo work. I probably had 8-10 hours in my swap, but it is ongoing b/c I am having issues with the clutch engagement b/c of hydraulic issues. I'd have these problems in a factory m6 car also though.
