3rd gear is good up to what mph?
Your third gear ratio is 1.30. Assuming stock height tires, stock gearing, and a stock rev limiter (you do have one of these you know to keep you from hurting anything) of 6250 you could go 107 MPH. You were only turning about 5240 if you were going 90 MPH in third.
mine is more like 103 (across traps in 3 on the limiter)
im sure what i did is very common, with an ok stock ls1 you just barely have to get it into 4th to trap 106 or so mph
you should have stayed in it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> maybe time to get a shiftlight if you are worried about tagging the limiter.

Remember, what your timeslip says is you MPH and what your MPH actually is across the line are two different things. The slip tells you your average speed over the last 60' of the track.
Also, speedometers and actual tire sizes vary.

<strong>So whats the fastest you can go in 6th gear <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" /> </strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Someone correct me if I'm wrong but you don't reach your top speed in 6th gear, you need to stay in 5th.

FYI When I last checked the math (based on 21.5 square feet of frontal area and a drag coefficient of .31) it takes 377 HP at the rear wheels to overcome the aerodynamic drag that the car is fighting to get to 200 mph. This all changes somewhat once you factor in tire drag and gear ratios (and the driveline losses from those ratios). I dynoed my 2002 Z stock (with a lid) and made 299.7 hp and 317 ft lbs in 4th gear, 3rd and 5th both cost me about 15hp and 13 ft lbs and I'm sure 6th would be worse than that (at 158 mph on the dynojet, I was making 285 hp to the wheels....and some evil noises....). Not that there are too many other "car geeks with calculators" like me....but interesting info (if anyone really cares....lol). Just thought I'd throw that out there.....
