Default 1 wheel spinning?

Hi guys.....2 make a long story short. Im no mechanic. But not to long ago I let my little brother drive my car, and well he spun tire and slid flush into a curb in my neighborhood. My rear axle was shifted and the arms holding the axel were bent. All in all everything was replaced. But the other day my friend saw me do a little "burn out" pulling away from his house and he said only 1 tire was spinning? And said that who ever replaced it put a firebird rear in and not a trans am. And mentioned something about a t/a rear is pozi or something and a firebird isnt. BASICALLY he was saying MY CAR should have both tires spinning NOT 1.............Is he right? or does this happen from time to time depending on traction etc etc.. W/B thanks guys!

Default build sheet

You need to look at your build sheet to see what was optioned when it was new. Then go from there on the repair people. They need to put it back to what was factory. Check it out. You can give the serial number to the GM dealer that should tell you. Jim

Your rearend should have been limited slip, not full positive traction! Wich explains why sometimes only one wheel will spin. Everthing is probably more than likely fine ( depending on the mechanic that worked on it )!

How can I tell if it is the right rear? I for one thought it happens from time to time depending on traction. But is there a way to actually tell if what I had it replaced with is what was on their?

I can't imagine they replaced the rear axle, did they? I would expect they would replace the bent links and that is it. I don't know what kind of car you have or where you got it serviced.

If you have TA the RPO code on the door will tell you what the car came with. Mine had a G80 (limited slip) GU6 (3.42 ratio).

This site lists all GM RPO codes:

http://www.marshu.com/ws6-firebird-c...codes-2000.php

If it has an auburn limited slip the clutches could be worn out causing the 1 wheel peal. If it either really slippery or really sticky you can get this also. When my auburn was going out at the track it would only spin 1.

yes the whole rear got replaced because the axle was bent also. i would imagine it was just according to traction.

What year is your car? The 93-02 model years there is no difference between a T/A, Firebird, Camaro rear-end. They're all the same...However, the V6 models got the open rear diff. which is just one-wheel-peel..its sucks. The V8 models got the Torsen diff which is uber nice because it doesn't have clutches inside it. You can switch them out.

BTW, limited-slip and "Posi" are the same thing... ;-)

I don't fully know your circumstances but I've had this problem before and I changed the fluid out and it worked fine.
