Default 3.73 gear swap

I am going to have 3.73s put in my car replacing the 3.23s. I have the gears and install kit, a TA cover, and a person to install them. Besides a Hypertech, what else will I need to make the car run correctly (reluctor ring, etc)??? I dont want there to be any suprises halfway through the project and I dont want to have problems after the rear gets put back in.

Also, what kind of perf. gains will I notice? SOTP??? Gimme some stories about how the car will behave <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Personally, I would buy a converter and leave the gears alone. Gains of .5 are still possible even with street tires. 3.23s are a great gear for the street.

That said, the car will feel faster and will be faster by .2 - .3 depending on if your shift points were low before you started using the HPP3. All you need is some gear oil and you are good to go.

Break them for 250 miles. Give them some 25 - 50 mile driving cycles where you get them hot and allow them to fully cool off.

I think all you need is the HPP3 to recalibrate. Did you say you already have the gears? When you ordered your gears, did you order the set that will go with your diff (there are 2 different kinds)?

1) There is one diff for 3.23s and down
2) There is one diff for 3.42s and up

You said you have the install kit (should have the seals, bearings, and shims). One thing I learned about the cover (at least the one I got) is that I had to notch the panhard brace. When the suspension would go through its travel, the preload studs would hit the brace. Just take a grinder and grind out untill everything clears.

Its not quite the same (I have a T56) but I changed from 3.42 to 3.73s and my second gear is STRONGER than my first gear was stock.

Later and good luck…..let us know how it turns out..... <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I believe 3 series carrier includes 3.23 and up and 2 series is for only 2.73s
