Exclamation determing rear-end gears

when i am cruisong at 65 on overdrive. automatic trans. my rpm is 2,000. what gears may be in the rear. not sure if work was done by previous owner. thanks alot for the help . ALSO a problem i am having. my car has trouble starting up. once its running its good. But when i come to a light my volts drop than slowly go back up. a new alternator installed . the battery reads low an wont charge fully. i think its the battery just need other input.

Jack on the center of the rear to lift both tires off the ground, smack a piece of tape on the driveshaft, and then rotate the wheel and count the revolutions of the tape.

2 3/4 times around = 2.73 gears
3 1/4 times around = 3.23 gears
3 1/2 times = 3.42 gears

etc...

Use this calculator, measure the hight of your tire, it will give you a very close estimate to the actual gear ratio.
