Writeup for a pinion seal replacement?
"GM made a change to the pinion seal design some time during production that should have fixed the leak problem. When the dealer changes the pinion seal ( if they do, make sure they use a new crush sleeve - some don't to save money/time. if they don't change it,chances are it'll just leak again)."
You do not need to remove the pinion to replace the seal, its a 30 minute job at most on a lift.. Take out the driveshaft, mark the nut, take off the nut (big impact works real well there
), pull off the yoke, pop the seal out, install the new seal carefully, assemble in reverse order, its pretty east to see where the nut will have to be in relation to your mark when it starts tightening, check/fill the diff and your done.
