Moser 12 bolt question that requries immiediate answer please!
Hey thanks to anyone who responds with accurate information asap, i'm trying to get in on this GP and i want to get it moving asap.
I have heard from thunderracing and tbyrne that when ordering a 12bolt moser rearend that brake backing plates on (2002 transam) need to be machined i guess for fit. Now i dont' even know wtf these things are, just wondering if it has to be done and how complicated it is. I have a buddy with grinders and other crap in a shop, wondering if he can do it while we're throwing the rear up. Tbyrne says that they offer new backing plates already welded onto the rear, the guy who is running the moser gp said that moser denies that they can do that. I just want to know what the deal is. So anyone who has a moser and who had put it in themselves or has any info regarding this that could help would be great.
Thanks

For my Moser 12bolt the backing plates didn't need to be machined... i'm not sure why yours would be different.
Pressed on isn't welding. The bearing for the axles need to be pressed on the axles (with the backing plate) with a press.

If you go with Tbyrnes (strange)just buy the backing plates. That way when the rearend shows up you can just bolt it in with no worries
Tbyrne sells Strange 12 bolts. The backing plates are what hold the brake caliper and E-brake.They bolt on,but need to be put inbetween the bearing and studs which requires a press.
I'm not sure about the technical terms here, "pressed" on, meaning welded? If i send this damn thing to a speed shop to be done, will it be done right or do i need to do leg work and get the backing plates to the machine shop? I am not good when it comes to this stuff, i just wanna drop it off and pick it up ya know. Thanks let me know.
