pinion seal problems
I just purchased a 2000 camaro, pretty much my dream car. Anyway the owner just rebuilt the rear end with 3.73 gears. I put it up on a lift at work because I heard some whining to find the pinion seal is leaking pretty bad. I called the guy at the shop that did the work hoping for some answers. He tells me he has already put in 3 pinion seals and that they keep leaking. I believe him because its a reputable business, but where does this leave me. I was going to put another one in Sat. but I don't want it to just start leaking again. Any ideas
Also I did a carfax and it has a clean title
The GM Dealer tells me they're 2 seals listed for a 2000 Camaro and the VIN doesn't narrow it down. Is it possible that someone put the wrong seal in when they changed out the gears???

I need a new pinion seal for my moser 12 bolt you wanna talk leaks. My torque arm loosened up on me and I think the changing angle when I accelerate trashed it. Not to hijack but do any sponsors sell moser parts?

You should have a two piece seal. One piece goes on the yoke and one in the housing.
If you go to any parts store they give you the wrong seal to use with the one on the yoke (if that makes sense).
What I did was get the parts store seal listed for a 2002 camaro, it's the same number for all 7.5/7.625 rears all the way back to the 70's Chevy Monza.
I got that seal, cleaned off the housing and used red loctite around it before putting it in, then pry the seal off the yoke and leave it off, put some sealer on the pinion splines.
The rear was always damp before, the whole 34,000 miles. This pic is about 6,000 miles after the new seal.
