Does a new ring/pinion need to be broken in?

Just installed an Eaton posi unit and a new 3.73 ring and pinion. Car is used for bracket racing (drive to the drag strip is approx 30 miles each way). Thanks

Yes. Heat cycle them several times, and then put some miles on them as well. After 2-3 heat cycles, I would drive them for at least a few hundred miles under low load. It would be even better to go 350-500.

Absolutely. In fact, a shorter interval of mileage, like 10-15, would also suffice.

Absolutely! We go 500 miles, and we also break in on regular Dino lube & replace w/full synthetic after that. If you use Syn from the beginning we see high spots in the wear patterns & shorter gear life.
