welding axle tubes

i plan to weld mine i think it might be flexing on my 1.4x 60' do i need to drain the fluid when i do this or can i leave it in there...i just got it all back together and noticed a small leak around one axle tube....

any input guys....think this might be causing or adding to my wheel hop problem

drain and then weld it up might look in to bracing from the bottem of the housing to the axle tubes we run ten bolts in circle track and brace them from the housing to help with flex and it does work
