Tranny or rearend?

Tranny or rearend? My friend called tonight to relay a problem with his M6 SS. He was pulling into a parking space tonight and his car stopped moving all of a sudden like he hit a brick wall. Engine still running, but wouldn't pull forward any more. Puts it in Reverse, backed up about 5ft. and the car stopped rolling again. Back in first, forward 5ft. again. Put it in Neutral and try to push it forward, still won't move. Sit and wait 5 minutes, and it pulled forward fine. Drove it around the parking lot a couple times and everything was fine. He ended up having it towed to be safe, but any ideas on what the problem is? I'm guessing differential problems. Missing teeth? Any guesses would be helpful.

Re: Tranny or rearend? This happened to me tonight about a block from my house. I was driving the car up to an intersection when the rearend started to make clunking noises and then it just wouldnt move forward. It was like trying to take off with your foot on the brake, the car would learch forward and just not move. I had the car towed home and i took the rearend girdle off it and everything looked fine, plenty oil and all of the teeth were in tact and such. So with the car on blocks, i had my pal try to put the car in gear and spin the wheels they wouldnt budge except for the driver side wheel which would twitch forward when the clutch was engaged and thats all. When the car was put into reverse it wouldnt move until enough force seemed to broke the passenger side loose and it spun like normal, put the car back into drive nothing happened again. Could this be a problem w/ the Posi? Any Ideas would be great case im hitching rides till then <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> .
