Rear end service? I'm changing the gear lube on my daughter's 98 V6 Camaro.Is synthetic gear lube ok with a posi differential?How much lube will I need and does the stock posi require an additive?thanks in advance
Re: Rear end service? Synthetic is fine. Most synthetics are "posi compatible" and don't need additive. THe additive is simply a "friction modifier" that makes the lube more slippery (for lack of a better explanation) to keep clutch or cone type posi units from chattering (auburn is a cone type). Per auburn, the noise isn't harmful, just irritating. But, with synthetics, you'll be fine and the additive should be included.
