Worn rear end bearings??
Ive heard that with 4.10s and stock tire height, that you will hit 5th in the 1/4 mile, is that true?

I just changed my Posi w/ a new OEM SLP take off for $99 and changed my gears to 4.10's. To answer your question about hitting 5th gear on stock size tires is not going to happen. I need to up my rev limiter I was peggin it going through the traps this past weekend in 4th.
I didn't get a T/A girdle, but I changed the Posi because one night I heard the infamous womp womp sound....and needless to say just heard it one time. I did however have something get into a right side bearing and scored it all up on the inside....well now that my whole rear is pretty much new, it gave me 28 great passes on Sat and Sunday and some killer 1.7 60' times and I am happy. BTW, I was launching around 3-3200 each time....worst 60; was 1.9 and happened 2 times the rest were all low to mid 1.8's.
I am also pushing around 355 to the wheels.
I love the 4.10's on the street they are great...highway or at 80+ I see 2K RPM's.....sometimes noisy in 5th but I can take it.
I will however get a 12 bolt when this breaks. If you are changing gears to 3.73's then get the Posi for $99 it's worth it....I got GM Superior gears and they came w/the complete install kit, seals, gasket and bearings.
I race alot so, I expect one day to tear it up, til then I enjoy what I do.
I play I will pay....someday

Once you break a gear or posi, it's toast....the posi is the main center chunk of the rear besides the gears and bearings.
You can get a set of new gears a(GM Superior) that comes w/ the install kit bearings, seals, etc included for around $300
Your Posi is a Zexel torsen and it limited slip, as to why you need to add the limited slip additive w/ the gear lube.

Worst case, the bearings seize and they lock up the rear then your really in trouble $$$$$.
Just go out and buy the 12 bolt if you plan on racing. It'll save alot of money.
If you are all that worried, don't waste the money on replacing gears and Posi in your 10 bolt...go for the $2120...Tbyrnemotorsports.com is now selling a Strange 12 bolt w/ 33 spline axles for that price.
I replaced my Posi because I heard noises and for $99 why not? I also went w/ new 4.10 gears (Love them) while all was apart being refreshed.
I will however go to a 12 bolt w/ 3.73's after this stuff breaks...but I kept my stocker 3.42's and the old posi which was still good, just had a bearing going bad.
Worst case, I replace my new stuff if I have to w/ the old...and buy an install kit w/ new bearings for $129 to get by til I bite the 12 bolt bullet.

Seeing I was going to an away track, and heard noises one night locally on our track I felt it was best to change the posi and while at it, add a gear change that is more beneficial on the track. The reason I went 4.10's is I am not cammed heavily yet, infact I have an LS6 cam going in soon. When I get close to 400 RWHP I will probably shatter this rear end....then it will be 12 bolt time.
I will only run 3.73's in the 12 bolt because they seem to be a bit more streetable for traction on the street w/ added power.
There is only one Posi unit your car left GM with....the Zexel Torsen. SLP takes them off and sells them because some Customer's order their SS w/ the Auburn.
