Default Leak...

Ok, I just had Motive 3.73 gears installed and a Motive master install kit.... The shop was 90 miles from my home...and when it was done I drove home, parked the car, went with a friend to eat.... when I get back I notice a bad leak...I call the guy who installed the parts and he said I should have only driven a short distance then let it cool off.... he said it probably overheated and when I got home decided to burp some fluid from the vent tube.

So... I changed the fluid in my car and did spill a little bit but wiped it up. I drove the car literally 100 ft, and put it back in my garage because it was about to thunder storm.... there was nothing leaking when I parked it..about an hour later I look under the car and

I have a little puddle of fluid... could it leak out of the pinion seal just sitting there?

Edit: After doing a little searching, it seems 2002 cars had a different pinion seal? Is it possible that the pinion seal included in my install kit from Motive was wrong?

If so, does this mean the whole rear has to be taken apart again to replace it?

There are two different seals available. Most utilize a 2 lip seal but some of the newer ones have a triple lip seal. The mechanic should have caught that when he installed the gears. The yoke would have been really tight on the seal if it was the wrong one. Let me know if you need the seal, we have them on the shelf.

Which one is best to use? 2 lip or triple? Do you know which one comes in the Motive install kit?

I really need to get my car fixed

Would getting the 12471523 GM seal fix this problem?

I went to the Chevy dealer to just look at the seal for that part number, and it seemed a lot bigger than the one that came in the Motive kit.

It's not a matter of which is the best, it is a matter of matching the correct seal to the yoke you have. PM me your vin number and I can check it out for you.

Well everyone, that Motive seal was definitely my problem.

An $8 part cost me a lot of trouble and money

So next time you buy an install kit, make sure the pinion seal is the right one for your car!!!!
