Default C5 rears

Just wondering how strong these rears are.. I am planning on putting together something a little different and might consider an independant rear. If the plan comes together like I plan, it should put down about 450rwhp before the bottle. I might run up to a 300 shot on it as well.

Will a C5 or C4 rear hold that? The car should weigh somewhere around 2900-3100lbs with me in it.

Also How are these about hooking up?

Oh, it will also be a M6.. Thanks in advance..

if u used a c5 rear, you would need to buy a vette 6 speed, couldnt use yours as it is a transaxle. however, if u use a c4 rear, you could use your transmission. the c4 rear (dana 44, dont get a dana 36 its weaker (44 is from manual vettes and 36 is from auto vetes)) has been holding up to quite a bit of power on street rods, and c4 vettes too, lol. I have seen a c4 dyno 700rwhp b4, and know of more that dyno'd that high, and not have much/if any complications with the rearend, and we all know the c5 rears are strong (lingenfelters vette is one example), i have witnessed plenty of 600+rwhp c5's....it would be a sweet project, let me know how it progresses...all in all, the c4 rear would be easier to set up i would belive, dont know though...

I'm still forming my ideas, but I was thinking about trying to find a totaled M6 vette for several reasons.

1) Rear end
2) Some of the front suspension
3) Complete LS6 motor
4) Trans
5) PCM

I'm sure I can find other things I want out of it. Seats and misc items. I'm sure there are going to be a lot of things I don't need though.

What rear is actually a better rear? Things like lower center of gravity, stronger, more adaptable.

LIL SS: One of the things left off the donor car list is the torque tube connecting the engine to the gearbox. As far as I can tell, this poses the single biggest stumbling block to retrofitting the C5 drivetrain into other cars unless you can use it as is (no shortening required.) I would love to see someone shorten one of these things for a reasonable amount of $$ and have it work well and be reliable.

As for which is better, I would say that is a tossup. From a weight dist. standpoint, the C5 would be superior as it moves a pretty substantial amount of weight rearward. Packaging (adaptability) on the other hand would be alot easier with the standard Dana 44. You would pretty much need to build the car around the torque tube and transaxle. As for strength either should be fine.
