Moser 12 bolt and relocation brackets
Yeah, I know Spohn brackets are the only ones made for the Moser 12 bolt, but I read on here that the BMR brackets would fit and they were less expensive.
Small digression - these things are way overpriced. I think you could take a drawing to your local machine shop and get a set made for $85. Now back to your regularly scheduled rant ...
I've worked in a machine shop and as a mechanical engineer. A relocation bracket is a relocation bracket. Unless you blow the hole locations or something like that there is no difference. The key here is size issues. I've read lots and lots of posts today about reloc brackets (including one which argued that G2 brackets will perform better than BMR) and found more than one which said they don't fit and one who said it was 30 seconds work with a dremel to make them fit. I don't think I could make them fit with 30 _minutes_ of work with a die grinder. Having never been under my Z before, the pictures on the web sites didn't make much sense and I had no feel for how they installed. Now I do ...There are three problems - the BMR brackets are too narrow to fit over the Moser LCA mounts. A BFH helps here. Part of the BMR bracket interfers with weld on the Moser. That I can grind off. Lastly, the back, or closed side, of the BMR brackets hits the back of the Moser LCA bracket forcing the BMR to rotate forward, thus changing the needed LCA length unless you want the rear end to move back.
My first thought is to sell them and buy the Spohns, but I have also read many stories today about axles moving with reloc bracket install. So, maybe I would be better of to hack the BMRs until they fit, or getting some strap iron and making my own. In any case it is going to be a bitch to try to get the holes arranged in an arc that matches LCA travel and get both sides arranged the same. Now I wish I had bought adjustable LCAs.
Well, that is my horror story for the day. Hope you enjoyed it and learned not to make the same mistake.
I had Global West LCA's on my 10 bolt and when I went to the Moser 12 bolt they wouldn't fit so we went and got bought some iron and had them fabricated using the GW's as a pattern. Works fine, I still cut high 1.5 to low 1.6 60ft's but it was a PITA !!!
