Default Need some info on some things

Ok guys im new to the board as you can see and im in the hunt for a LS1. I'm looking for a 02 SS with a T-56, now i have some questions regarding mods. I will list the mods i want to do off the bat and you tell me which is important and which is not.

1). Gears im not sure if i want to go with 4.10's or a higher gear. Some info on pros and cons of a gear higher than 4.10's. (correct me if ls1's are 4.11's still learning here)

2). All your basic free mods, im not sure of them all but i will before i buy the car.

3). a pulley i heard they make a huge difference in the preformance of the car.

4). Full exhaust, but here is where i run into a problem who makes the best set of headers? Also what is a good cat back system, i know of a few but i kinda want a different sound than everyone else. Also what is the pro's and con's to a H pipe, X pipe or staying with the Y pipe?

5). With the new gears im betting i need a gurdel(sp?) and stud kit correct ??

6). I'm thinking of doing LS1 Edit might as well tune it as well.

7). last is a new clutch set up i know a guy who makes a nice clutch and it should be nice for getting out of the hole without having to launch real hard.

Ok if anyone could give me some more info i would be greatful, i figure if im going to get into this game im not going to mess around with weak stock times. I could be wrong (im sure i am) but i figure with the driving skill i know i have and a set of sticky tires i should run deep into the 12's if not some 11's. I have heard of some 11's out of the same set up but i also heard those were some freak of nature cars. I figure even with a factory dud 11's aren't that impossiable to run. If there is anything i left out please inform me so i may fix this list. Thanks in advance and i look forward to seeing you all on the track or the highway.

Welcome to the board!
1 I know that a lot of the 6 speed guys like the 4.10s so sure do it.

2 there are a few free mods that work, the FRA (free ram air) and the TB coolant bypass and taking the screen out of the MAF.

3 pulleys are good, id just get the crank pulley. no alt pulley not worth it

4 headers, id go w/ QTP Barry just came out w/ a stainless version of his headers, id look hard at that set also we just have X and Y pipes. cat back is based on personal preference. so hear some before you make a decision I.E. GMMG, Corsa and Borla. ohh and don’t forget the duals, which is usually a X-pipe with bullet mufflers.

5 you might as well just save your money for a 12 bolt or even a 9 inch. the stock 10 bolts are crappy!

6 ls1 edit is a very good idea. Don’t get a hypertech or a preditor, get edit.

7 use the stock clutch till it takes a dump or slips b/c of too much power what would i know i drive an auto!

Expect low 13s or high 12s stock on some tires. then differs from car to car and mods to mods to start guessing times here good luck chief

Drew

One thing to remember....when you put a 4.10 in a 10 bolt, the pinion gear becomes somewhat "delicate". YOu may want to see how fast guys are running on 4.10's before destroying gearsets. You may want to save the gear money towards a whole rear axle. 10 bolts seem to live (for a while) in automatic cars...but they don't seem to last in a high power 6 speed application. You may want to toss a post up about gears to find out. Good luck (and welcome aboard!).
