Default Transmission power flush

Ok, I need to get a straight answer. I figure it's time to change the tranny fluid in my 99 Silverado. Dealer says power flush, drop the pan, new filter and then top up the fluid. Talked to a couple of tranny shops and they says that power flushing is a bad idea. They just drop the pan etc. They claim that the power flush cleaner breaks down the seals and trouble will arrive sooner than later. What's the deal? Who is right? I want to get the right answer before I screw my tranny up. Thanks

Dude, maybe I can lend a hand. I was in this dilemma a while ago on flushing the 4L60E transmission in my 99' Camaro. You can do the flush your self. You will need a helper. You will also need about 4 gallons of transmission fluid for an auto. This method will do the same thing as the power flush, but without the cleaning agent. Here's the link:

This will clean out the converter. It would also be wise to change the filter and pan gasket. It would be better to flush the enitre system than to just add new fluid into the pan. You would still have alot of the old fluid in the torque converter and the internals. Old fluid that is broken down causes your seals to harden and weaken.

Thanks for the info. When it warms up some here I'll get on that.

Hey, I'm one of them shops that says not to flush. The reasons being, When you flush your tranny you knock suspended debris loose in the tranny and allow them to re enter the system. I'm all for droping the pan changing the fliud and filter, drive for several days drop the pan andding new fliud the secound time. This seems to work the best for me I've never had anyone at my counter shaking a fist saying I ruined their transmission.I hope this helps.
