Default U-Joint Replacement Tips

Tomorrow I'll be trying to toss in my new rear end and will be changing out to the Napa 477 Crossover U-Joint.

Anyone have any tips on removing the old u-joint and reinstalling the new one? (I know I have to heat up the old one to melt out some nylon clips or something). Which way should the grease fitting point? Should I pump it full of grease before or after the driveshaft is reinstalled with the new rear end?

TIA.

I just replaced a U-joint. I simply rented a U-joint replacement tool from autozone and pressed out the old one and put the new one in. I greased mine after installation. My grease fitting is located in the center housing and it points straight out. So, all I have to do is rotate the drive shaft until the fitting is pointed at an angle where I can put the gun on it.

Good luck!

I had Spicer u-joints pressed in mine at a local driveshaft place. I think they pressed them in for free. (being I bought the u-joints there)

The ujoint has no clips on the old one. The plastic insert holds them in. You melt this out with a torch. Just heat it up until plastic starts shooting out each hole on the sides of the shaft. Then clean the inside of the shaft ends with a wire brush. Lube them with grease. You can install the new one with a bench vise and a socket. Press one cap in at a time until the new clips fits.

LS1Nova - I see you're in Mpls. I live in Plymouth and frequent the Midway. Do you ever head that way? Also what year is your car and do you have pix? Sounds like a nice combo.
