Which gearbox for high boost/torque?

Which gearbox for high boost/torque? Hi guys, advice needed please. In the UK most people hate auto's. I have a turbo engine built with 7:1 comp ratio to be fitted into a car weighing 2200lbs appx. I have several t56's including an LS1 item but will they handle really high torque levels assuming the car has traction. If I went for an auto box what should I get, 400, 700? Any other options? I can live with an auto and may like it but it's got to be bulletproof and a straightforward install.
Also, approximately what does a new LS1 t56 with bellhousing and hydraulics cost. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> . I may sell my setup.

Re: Which gearbox for high boost/torque? How much power are we talking about with the turbo motor? The t-56 seems to live in a 3600 lb Camaro at the 450-550 hp level pretty well (usually on street tires, and not abused). If you are headed for 700 hp or so, I'd look into a Tremec TKO or a Jerico (dog ring type race box). The Nascar (I'm not a big Nascar fan, but they are heavy, powerful, fast and hard on parts) boys are using Jerico transmissions at 700+ hp and 3600 lbs (are you drag racing or road racing?) and they hold up very well. Just my thoughts.

Re: Which gearbox for high boost/torque? Thanks guys. I'm stuck in the UK so parts are a pain. Basically the turbo engine's on 7:1 cr and I'm aiming for 12-15lbs of boost. I take a guess at maybe 700lbs/ft torque and the cars on street tyres, I can use 325x17's. The car weighs appx 2200lbs with the engine. It's a Triumph TR8 and it will be for road use with occasional 'run what you brung' drag use. I can't find any info that says what an upgraded t56 can take or who can do it. Stock LS1 box is rated at 450 lbs/ft and I will have more. I know traction will be an issue but I want to sort the box first then I can forget about it. Is anybody stuffing huge torque through a stock box?

You are probably pushing the T-56....but check with those guys and see what they say.

Re: Which gearbox for high boost/torque? The T-56 holds up pretty good with the viper shift forks and other upgraded parts. Call D&D (I dont have the number on me right now) im pretty sure they can help you <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Re: Which gearbox for high boost/torque? Thanks. Trackbird, it's a good project car but in a sorry state at the moment. 330mm brembo brakes, 10x17 wheels, widened bodywork & sills. Chargecooler/radiator is mounted in a rear boot spoiler. Car has diablo back lights. Axle is located via an "A" frame. The chargecoolers at the engine are ex US military & marked, Lockheed Missile dept, BUWEPS and NASA etc. I'd love to know what they are from and how to post a picture of them. They are works of art and probably titanium.
