Sometimes people see higher gains, but most of the extra gain came from improving their shift points (done when they got their speedo corrected).

Re: 3.23 to 3.73 Shift point adjustment is needed only if they are messed up (sometimes they shift low from the factory) or you want to shift at 6200 or higher for better performance (depends upon your mods).
Shift kits are nice but not necessary. If you firm shifts electronically, do not overdue it or you can damage the tranny.
